Water Heater Pilot Light Won T Light No Spark
When the water heater pilot light goes out first try relighting it following the directions on the water heater label.
Water heater pilot light won t light no spark. When i push in the gas valve and hold it down in the pilot position i am expecting to hear the sound of gas flowing but nothing it s completely silent. This can happen with age. Sometimes carbon deposits can build up on the pilot and eventually create a restriction. The control valve is the box located by the access cover.
If you smell gas do not attempt to light the heater. If the smell does not dissipate replace the heater s control valve before proceeding. The manual states that it may take several minutes for air to clear the line before the pilot will light. When troubleshooting lighting problems it is recommended to test it first.
Remove the pilot light access cover. It is located near the bottom of the tank. This can happen with age. Turn the gas off to the water heater and press the piezo igniter.
If the spark electrode won t produce sparks it is likely defective. If the spark electrode is defective replace it. Some water heaters use a spark electrode to light the pilot flame. If the pilot doesn t relight if it goes out right after lighting or if the pilot light keeps going out by far the most common cause is a bad thermocouple.
Unplug the igniter wire if the pilot did not light after several attempts make sure the spark igniter is working. The pilot ignites the water heater s gas burner. The spark gap is factory set 0 125 and should be maintained. If your pilot doesn t re light won t stay lit or keeps going out after a short time you most likely have an issue with the hot water heater thermocouple.
The spark electrode sends intermittent high voltage sparks to light the pilot. If the pilot does not light the water heater will not heat. If the pilot is restricted try removing it and clearing it with a stiff brush and or compressed air.
