Water Flow Meter Principle
The meter has an impeller which is a rotating device that rotates when water flows through it.
Water flow meter principle. When larger flow rates must be measured two or more flow meters mounted in parallel are required. The piston meter operates on the principle of a piston rotating within a chamber of known volume. The meter minimum flow rate is established by a reynolds number of 10 000 to 10 500 the fluid density and a minimum acceptable shedding frequency for the electronics. Electromagnetic flow meters simply known as mag flow meter is a volumetric flow meter which is ideally used for waste water applications and other applications that experience low pressure drop and with appropriate liquid conductivity required.
As the name implies a flow meter is an instrument for monitoring measuring or recording the rate of flow pressure or discharge of liquids or gasses. The largest coriolis flow meter that is currently available has a maximum flow rating of 25 000 lb min 11 340 kg min and is equipped with 6 in. Coriolis flow meters are not available for large pipelines. The device doesn t have any moving parts and cannot work with hydrocarbons and distilled water.
The basic operation of coriolis flow meters is based on the principles of motion mechanics. Working principle of the ultrasonic flow meter. As fluid moves through a vibrating tube it is forced to accelerate as it moves toward the point of peak amplitude vibration. An ultrasonic meter velocity meter uses electronic sensors to measure the water velocity.
The magnetic flow meter requires a conducting fluid for example water that contains ions and an electrical insulating pipe surface for example a rubber lined steel tube. The meters typically contain two ultrasonic transducers with one acting as the transmitter and the other as the receiver. The mechanical types of water flow meters work by measuring the speed of water flowing through the pipe that causes a piston or turbine to rotate. They are the most common and economical type of water flow meters which perform flow measurement through turbine rotation with a shunt propeller or paddle wheel design.
Electromagnetic flow meters working principle. Ultrasonic flow meters use the principles of echo and variation in the speed of sound across different mediums to measure flow. Conversely decelerating fluid moves away from the point of peak amplitude as it exits the tube. The maximum flow rate is governed by the meter pressure loss typically two velocity heads the onset of cavitation with liquids and sonic velocity flow choking with gases.
The physical principle at work is electromagnetic induction.
