Water Bladder Tank Pressure Setting
Prior to operation with the tank empty of water the pressure should be 2psi below the cut on pressure.
Water bladder tank pressure setting. For example if you have a pressure switch setting of 30 50 psi you pressure measured at the top of the tank should read 28 psi. If it appears that a bladder tank is not operating correctly check the tank s air charge. Use caution when using an air compressor or air pump. Release or add air as necessary to make the pressure 2 psi below the pressure switch pump cut in setting.
The cut on pressure for the well pump is 30 psi so the pressure of the tank should have a pressure of 28 psi. A water tank bladder might rupture from age an internal defect or if the pump pressure control switch is defective or is set so high that the water pressure breaks the bladder but this last cause is a bit unusual since the air pressure and water pressure on the two sides of the tank bladder s are normally the same. For example if the supply line pressure is 60 psi the pre charge within the expansion tank should be set to 60 psi. Psi and 40 to 60 lbs psi.
Even if the water is completely turned off the water continues to flow at the normal pressure out of the bladder until the bladder is empty. Well x trol water pressure tanks are shipped from the factory with a standard precharge of 18 psig for models wx 101 and wx 102. The pre charge pressure is set to equal the cold water static or no flow condition. Check the tank s pressure by placing an air pressure gauge on the air charging valve on the top of the tank.
If your well tank is on a 40 60 pressure switch your pressure setting should be 38 psi. Locate the pressure switch limits which are located inside the pressure switch cover. Pressure switch limits are different on different types of pressure tanks such as 20 to 40 lbs psi 30 to 50 lbs. Drain the tank by opening the closest faucet.
This differs depending on your tank s pressure settings. Add air if the pressure is more than 2 psi below the pump cut in pressure. Air can be added with a compressor or bicycle pump. Some models may come with different pressure settings however.
So for example with a 30 50 pressure switch factory default setting air pressure in the tank will equal 28psi. If the pressure switch is adjusted to 40 60 the cut on pressure will be 38psi. Disconnect electrical power to the pump. According to well x trol bladder type well tank air precharge.
Most well tanks come set at 30 50. Typical factory set air pressure on a bladder type residential well water tank is 18 psi. Check pressure in the tank with your pressure gauge. As water flows the flow pressure drops below static pressure.
For example if the pump cut in pressure is 30 psi the tank bladder pressure should be 28 psi. Procedure for setting well bladder pressure. The pressure in the pressure tank should be 2 psi less than the cut in pressure for the pump. Using a bladder to feed a shower.
